Timber Choices
New Zealand has very diverse climatic conditions from one end of the country to the other. It is important that the timber and fittings we use in the manufacture of outdoor furniture can cope with this diversity. We have selected two different hardwood timbers from which we construct outdoor furniture. The timber we use is sourced from strictly managed forests.

Kwila
Kwila has been used in the construction of outdoor furniture and decks in New Zealand for many years and is ideally suited for this purpose. Kwila is hardwood timber with a rich golden brown colour. This timber has very high resin content and will “bleed” sap with each shower of rain for a period of time after purchase. You can accelerate this “bleeding” process by placing your setting on the grass and hosing down several times. Any sap stains will disappear over time.

Jatoba (Courbaril)
Jatoba is an extremely dense hardwood with a lovely resonant brown to red colour. Unlike Kwila, Jatoba does not bleed sap in the same way, making this timber ideal for situations where sap stains are not wanted.

Both these hardwoods are very dense and stable, making them perfect to use in the construction of outdoor furniture. With weather exposure over time, both these timbers will weather to a silver grey colour unless maintained. This silvering does not affect the structural integrity of your furniture and can be restored back to its original colour should you wish. Construction methods used.

Mortice and tenon joints
We use a type of joint called mortise and tenon on all of the permanent joints. This joint is glued with epoxy resin marine glue and further reinforced with a hardwood dowel, making an extremely strong and enduring joint.

Stainless steel fasteners
All of the weather-exposed fasteners are stainless steel and will not rust.

Nylon glides
All tables and chairs are fitted with nylon glides to the feet to help protect them from wear and tear, especially on rough surfaces.

Finish
Every piece of furniture receives two coats of Woodoc30 clear oil for added protection. For more information about this product please click here for our care and maintenance section.

Fully Assembled
Your new furniture will be delivered to you fully assembled. We do not manufacture or supply knockdown or ‘ready to assemble’ outdoor furniture.

Acrylic Canvas
The canvas used on our furniture slings is a 100% solution dyed acrylic canvas. There are over 50 different fashion colours to choose from. Replacement slings are available should you wish to update the look of your setting at any time. Please contact us for details. We expect that you will enjoy many years of use out of your canvas slings; this is backed up with a limited 5-year manufacturers warranty against rot, fade and mildew. Custom Sizes
Because you are purchasing directly from the manufacturer of your new outdoor furniture, it is a simple and easy process to have a custom-made setting created to suit your unique needs. If this is an option you would like to explore, please contact us to discuss your requirement.
